Why I started The Inner Listener
For a long time, I was living on autopilot. My days ran on habit, my attention belonged to everything except me, and I could not have told you what I actually wanted.
Where it began
My attention was always somewhere else. A phone that never stopped asking for me. Notifications, news, other people’s messages, other people’s plans. And underneath it all, a constant background question: what will someone think of me?
I was present in the room and absent from my own life. That was my personal suffering, and it was quiet enough that I did not see it as suffering at all. It just felt like being busy.
Years of searching
I tried a great many techniques for creating a life I wanted. Some felt wonderful for a week or two and then faded. I kept looking, because I knew there had to be a way to stop drifting and start choosing.
The turning point
In 2019, I worked through the Silva Method, and that was my aha moment. The change was simple, and it began with my attention. I started to pay less attention to what someone else might think of me, and more attention to what I wanted.
I paid less attention to what someone would think of me, and more to what I wanted. The shift that changed things for me
From there, my life began to move in the direction I had been picturing for years. I am deeply grateful for that, and it has stayed with me ever since.
Why I write journals
I am sure there are many people like me, struggling in different parts of their lives: their health, their money, their relationships, their work, or simply their sense of being the person who chooses. The details differ, but the starting point is often the same. Our attention is scattered, and we are living by default.
A journal cannot live your life for you. What it can do is give your attention somewhere to rest, for a few honest minutes a day. A page, a few short lines, and a question that is only about you. That is what every one of these journals is built to be: a small, steady place to notice what is running underneath, so you can choose what runs your life.
The Inner Listener is my way of passing that on to the people who need it, one page at a time.
A note of honesty: this is my own experience, and I cannot promise you a particular result. The journals are for reflection and self-awareness, and they are not a substitute for medical, financial or professional advice.
Where to go from here
If something in this story sounded like you, the easiest next step is to find the journal that matches where you are right now.
